Reunion Island is often presented as an integrationist model. For generations one could have believed this. But if one scratches off even a scrap of the surface, one realizes that this apparent harmony has a price: things unsaid and the withdrawal of people within their own communities, be they ethnic groups or families. Reunion, because of its insularity, suffers from a spatial problem, sprawling and chaotic urban development, a congested road network, etc…After having discovered Francky Laurent’s poetry, I started wondering what the space of speech was in a territory like Reunion, and what was the space of sharing on this territory. From this came the idea of Le Blanc Entre Les Mots, the gap between words, this empty space to be shared between rhythm, movement and necessarily poetical speech. [Eric Languet]
